Nolato Mobile produce assembled plastic products for mobile phone manufacturers including Sony-Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and Seimens. Their Swedish production facility is highly automated with eight production lines and around 60 robot systems.
Around 70 inspection vision stations check every stage of the assembly process. Most robots use machine vision guidance to achieve the required process precision and cycle time.
As Anders Wendel, automation project manager, explains: "By applying machine vision inspection and guidance techniques we were able to significantly improve our process yields - in some cases several hundred percent!"
Real-time Statistical Process Control (SPC) is used extensively to drive the process at every stage of the assembly. Organizational training has been identified as a key element of the success of this strategy.
